During the Spring and Summer the DPW will deliver a load of mulch (approximately 1 ˝ yards) for $25.  Please stop by Village Hall to pre-pay.

Garbage Pickup is every Wednesday, please have your brown trash can out at the street by 6am.

Items to be recycled should be in the green bin opposite the trash container.  (glass containers, tin cans and plastic that does not crack when squeezed).  Corrugated cardboard should be flattened, no pizza boxes please.  No paper products should be placed in the bin.

Newspapers should be placed in a brown bag next to the recycling bin.  Magazines & catalogs should be bundled with string and placed next to the recycle bin.

Junk mail, office paper and other high grade paper should be in a plastic bag next to the recycling bin.

Brush will be picked up as time allows.  Branches should be placed at the curb with the cut end of the wood facing out.  The pieces can be long, but not more than 10 inches in diameter.  Wood that contains nails or staples should be placed separately so we do not put it through the wood chipper.

In the spring, other lawn debris must be in brown bags.  In the fall, leaves will be vacuumed when left at the curb.

ALL OTHER items should be disposed of properly.  The Town of New Scotland Transfer Station is open on Saturdays throughout the year and on Wednesdays from May through September.  For more information call 475-0385.

Water meters are read electronically for billing once a year in May.  The water is billed on June 1st each year and due in 60 days.  Penalties accrue after this time and any unpaid water bills on May 1st will be relevied to Village taxes.  Outside users are subject to termination of service for unpaid bills.  The Village has the equipment to read meters throughout the year to assist in leak detection.  If your meter shows a “potential leak”, we will notify you so that you can research any problems that can be corrected to save money as well as conserve water.

Should the Village impose any water restrictions, they will be posted on the Community Board at the entrance to the Village on Maple Road.

The hardness of the Village water is 19.5 grains.

The water rates are as follows:

$90.00 minimum, paid in advance, which covers the first twenty five thousand gallons used.  (Out of Village property rates are doubled).

Use over the initial 25,000 gallons will be billed as follows:

$2.75        Usage 25,001 to 75,000 gallons

$3.00        Usage 75,001 to 150,000 gallons

$3.25        Usage 150,001 to 225,000 gallons

$3.50        Usage 225,001 to 300,000 gallons

$4.00        Usage 300,001 to 375,000 gallons

$4.50        Usage 375,001 to 450,000 gallons

$5.00        Usage 450,001 to 525,000 gallons

The Village maintains 2 sewer districts.  Sewer District #1 serves Salem Hills and some residents along Mountainview Street and Swift Road, as well as the Voorheesville Elementary School.  Sewer District #2 serves Pleasant Street.   Residents are billed for an entire year but payments may be paid in quarterly installments.  The due dates are:  July 31, October 31, January 31 and April 30.  Any outstanding bills after April 30 will be relevied to Village Tax.
